What a start to 2021 it’s been for Nicola Broomham.
After starting her business, Broomham Recruitment, just before the pandemic, she has gone against the trend of most and seen her client base thrive. Not wanting to keep her away from her day job too long, we sat down over Zoom for a quick catchup, and to get some feedback on the accountancy and coaching support she has been receiving.
Describe your business and the services you offer
Our business is just over a year old, I set it up in January last year (2020). In basic terms we provide specialist recruitment services to the estate agent and property sector.
When did you first start working with modus and what services were you looking for?
I started working with Modus Accountants in January 2020 when I first set up the business. Very quickly I found that the business was growing and I needed to do more than just the self-employed bits that I had been doing on my own. I really needed to set it up as a fully-fledged business with accountants, but also needed some business support, and that’s why I came to Modus.
What has modus helped you with the most?
Modus has helped me the most with a couple of things actually – (Firstly) All of the accounts side of things, which I completely don’t understand at all. They just tell me what I need to do and when i need to do it, which is great.
(Secondly) I also do the (business) mentoring with Mark, and he has helped me to make some really important decisions for the business at the right time. I don’t think the business would be where it is today if I hadn’t had Mark advising me and guiding me.
What has been your experience working with Modus so far and have we met your expectations?
My experience working with Modus over the last year has been really good, I’ve really enjoyed working with everybody. On the Accounts side of things – James and Jenna have been really good at helping me get on top of everything. Mark has been fantastic as a mentor, and helping hand hold and guide the business. Its not just me as well, they have also helped various members of our team with different bits and pieces.
Have you worked with any other accountants and how does modus compare?
I haven’t worked with any other accountants, so I don’t have anything to compare them to. But, for me, the integration of a business guide and management (service), and knowing what is happening on the finance side, those two together makes it very easy for me to understand and look at my business as a whole rather than two separate entities.
What would you say to anyone thinking of joining modus?
For me Modus has been a real life-changer. If anyone is thinking of joining Modus Accountants from the business coaching side, or the accountancy side, I would say definitely pick up the phone and give them a call. They’ve been transformational for my business and without them I don’t feel we would be where we are today.
What are your plans for 2021 and looking forward to getting going?
We are looking to double the size of the team and become more well-known by getting our name out there- the support I’ve got from the Modus team will really help to push us forward to where we need to be.
