Oxfordshire Based Accountancy Firm Selects Two Oxfordshire Businesses to Share £10,000 Support Prize
Modus Accountants based in Frilford, Oxfordshire, launched the Modus Ignite support programme in September 2020. After seeing a big increase in the number of new business start-ups during the first lockdown the team wanted to ensure local businesses were getting the support they needed.
Modus Ignite was created to provide these new businesses, and people with business ideas, the opportunity to receive a range of expert support and a cash investment.
With entries coming from all over Oxfordshire, the 2020 programme closed for entries in December 2020. Impressed with the variety of businesses and ideas Modus Accountants Director, Mark Spolander and the Modus team could not decide on a single winner, and have instead chosen to split the prize between; Witney’s Pobi Bakery, and 3D printing and prototyping service Printpool Additive Manufacturing Ltd.
Pobi Bakery
Pobi Bakery is a new artisan bakery based in Witney. Founded by James Talbot and Jake Jones the bakery was started earlier this year during lockdown, with people regularly queuing down Witney Highstreet for their signature cinnamon rolls and sourdough. James said;
“We are truly humbled to be recognised by Modus through the Ignite programme. It has been a crazy twelve months for Jake and I, but we couldn’t be happier with the business and how it is developing. The support we will receive from the programme will enable us to increase our capacity allowing us to throw our net a little wider than just Witney! Thank you to Mark and the team for taking a genuine interest in helping small businesses grow.”
Printpool Addictive Manufacturing Ltd
Printpool, based in Headington, Oxford are changing the way that access to 3D printing services are provided, offering a range of affordable subscription plans. Founder and Director of Printpool Gerard Shields said;
“We’re delighted to have been chosen as a Modus Ignite Programme Champion. It’s fantastic to have the high potential of our business recognised, and the expert accounting support, as well as business coaching on offer, will be invaluable to us as we grow further over the next twelve months. Launching a business during a pandemic has been hard, and we’ve had to adapt rapidly to survive and thrive in this unprecedented economic environment. With the support of Modus however, 2021 is set to be a big success.”
After choosing the winners Mark said;
“With so many great entries it was difficult to pick just one. So selecting two businesses with fantastic potential felt like the right thing to do. We’re really excited to support Pobi and Printpool and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive and succeed. Owned by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, we are a very different accountancy firm. We know what it’s like starting and running multiple businesses, and the first few years in business can be tough. We wanted to create a program to help new businesses through this tricky time and navigate past their challenges. I certainly wish there was something like this when I setup my first business nearly 20 years.”
Mark continued;
“I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and interviewing dozens of new businesses owners in the last few months. So much so that we’ve decided to continue running the Ignite program. The new programme will be operating in quarterly cycles, with everyone that enters given a free business start-up strategy session. There will of course be a prize package for the winners, but those who don’t win the first prize, there will be a monthly business start up support event held at our new offices at Frilford Golf Club (virtually for now).”
